2024 suissetec Metalworker Day: “Quintessentially Swiss”

A “Schwyzerörgeli” Wins the Creativity Competition for Apprentices

Suissetec metalworker day 2024 creative competition
Silas Peter’s “Schwyzerörgeli” secured him first place.

Silas Peter came first in the 2024 suissetec Metalworker Day Creativity Competition. Working to the theme “Quintessentially Swiss”, the metalworker apprentice built a “Schwyzerörgeli” (Swiss diatonic accordion) that won over the judges.

It must have been like music to Silas Peter’s ears when he was crowned winner of the Creativity Competition at the 2024 suissetec Metalworker Day. With his piece, the “Schwyzerörgeli”, the Lucerne-based apprentice beat all other up-and-coming metalworkers in this year’s competition. As the winner, he also receives prize money totalling CHF 1,700.

Striking the right note with the “Schwyzerörgeli”

The metalworkers were asked to work to a predetermined theme by creating either a practical object, a picture, or a sculpture.

This year, the participants had free rein to explore the theme of “Quintessentially Swiss”, while cleverly applying well-known joining and working technology. Silas Peter demonstrated his skill, to great effect, in his replica of a traditional Swiss musical instrument.
